The Ministry of Power has evaluated the status of 34 stressed thermal power plants

The Ministry of Power has evaluated the status of 34 stressed thermal power plants (TPPs) with anaggregate debt of Rs 1.77 trillion as per a list given by the Department of Financial Services (DFS). According to DFS data, scheduled commercial banks have total advances of Rs 4.71 trillion towards the power generation sector, of which most are stranded assets. As part of government’s efforts to revive stranded assets, NLC Limited is planning to take over the 1,200 MW Ragunathpur TPP in West Bengal, a stressed TPP of Damodar Valley Corporation. The company has also shortlisted two other plants for acquisition. Meanwhile, NTPC Limited currently has no such proposals at present.
